Perhaps the most stupid (and arrogant) response I ever got when I invited someone to join me kayaking was "I love myself too much to be doing that!". Huh? I must really hate myself to be kayaking then! How ignorant and insulting. Your life is more valuable than mine? Duh! If you really love yourself - you'll give yourself a chance to explore/relish whatever this life has to offer. More likely it is just plain ignorance and fear of the unknown and unfamiliar. Although we are surrounded and blessed with a fantastic network of rivers in Sarawak; they are hardly ever used for recreational purposes. All these waterways and not a kayak in sight. A common fear is crocodiles (I'll leave that for another post). Now, this fear has been overtaken by fear of the Tsunamis ... Oh! Then this looming storm picture that I took on the return from a Bako National Park daytrip should really make them shit in their pants! Stumble It!
