John, Dancy and their son Justin were visiting from
Singapore and the guys wanted to try out kayaking succumbing to the temptations after all email photos of kayaking that I had sent them. Fortunately it was a public holiday here (Hari Raya Haji
/ Adiladha) and high water was conveniently at
2.00 pm.
John and Justin has never kayaked before, though excited was naturally a little nervous. After some basic instructions and reassurance, John got into a tandem with me while I let junior get into a single. We launched off from our house jetty under the watchful eyes of junior’s mother and grandmother.

We paddled down Sungai Stutong at a leisurely pace and it was a joy watching John and Justin taking tentative strokes delighting in the sensation and freedom of gliding through the water under their own propulsion. I wished I had it that easy in my introduction to kayaking; which would make for an interesting retrospective blog. I guided the kayak closer to some of the mangrove trees with overhanging fruits for John to pluck; with Justin following closely behind gaining confidence with each paddle stroke.
After about half an hour, we decided to turn back with Justin reluctantly trailing behind. Soon we were back at the jetty with Dancy anxiously and eagerly wanting to know from hubby and son their first kayaking experience. Their big smiles told her all she needs to know! While we were chatting, enjoying tea and freshly baked scones on our timber deck, they thanked me but the pleasure really has been all mine.; especially when they remarked half-jokingly that they now have a very good reason to visit Kuching next time!

Stumble It!
Damn! It looks fun. Definitely something to think about the next time I drop by Kuching during my holidays.
agus - and don't forget the bak kua, although Segafredo is also perfectly acceptable! ;)
Segafredo? You got it! Together with a bunch of other beans.
agus! thks man! i always knew that kayaking would be rewarding!
we could paddle out and enjoy good coffee on Sg Kuap ... ahhhhh! the sweet life!
Segafredo... yes, agus, .. Thanks to your blog, your truely went ago some stinky coffee place to look for bean of this branding.
You should sent some to fH2o right away to secure your booking of the kayaks!!!
(PS I am still allergic to coffee)
Stinky? That bad huh...Kesian. And did u find one? I hope not. I hate to be the cause of your allergic symptoms as well.
Send him? My, it's like you cut and paste that option right out of my mind! That'd be good ain't it? Instead of merely promissing to and never know when I'll come down. I hate to see him counting his beans before they actually brew!
Overhanging fruits from the mangrove trees? Are they edible?
happy - yeah! the monkeys absolutely LOVED 'em! U can see them pluckin 'em from the trees and eating 'em across the river from my jetty every morning around 7am. they are quite picky too as they throw the not so ideal ones into the river!
want me to DHL some over to u? ;)
DHL me some? Very funny! I mean can humans eat them? What fruits are those?
happysurfer - better still, u come over here and I kayak u to pick the fruits!
yes they are edible. the local fishermen on the river frequently pluck and eat 'em. supposed to taste like cheese! but i am not game enough to try one yet ...
they are actually from the mangroove trees called mangroove apple. i'll collect some one day and take photos of 'em just for you! see i'm so kind one! *blush blush*
Never give up, do you?
Why not game enough to try them? I'm shocked. Dare to go kayaking but dare not try the fruits. hah! Coward! That would be nice, posting pictures of the fruits. Don't do it for me - do it for your blog.
Eh! Why no comments from Dancy, John or Justin? Hello there folks! Wakey! wakey! ;)
