A Rainy Night at Taman Sahabat

posted by Francis Ho

We had to go back to our old house last night for a short while and it was drizzling. In Kuching at the first drop of rain almost everyone will run for shelter as most people have this phobia that you’ll fall sick if you get wet! They should really see me out in the pouring rain in the middle of the river in disbelief and confounded. And you shouldn’t be in the park at night unless you are lovers or muggers. So I had the park all to myself and here are the few grab-shots that I took including the statue of the love cats remembering the request of the delectable blogger from KL. The rain turned an otherwise ordinary night shots into something more mysterious and interesting. What do you think?

Oh....that comment above is from Jungle Mike....
jungle mike - don't worry; u are not missing much, the cats like the rest of the cat sculptures in kuching are equally hideous, even in the dark!

fyi, the cats are directly behind the backyard of my previous house. i had been spared!
Nice effect. You just can't resist water, can you? ;^)

The gateway through a rainy screen is nice. It looks like an impressionist painting.

Did you use a tripod for these, or do you just have a very steady hand?
hi panda, glad that u like the photos.

it was an impromptu thing so unfortunately i didnt have a tripod and as a consequence, if u look closely the photos are a little 'soft'.
i had to position myself where i can rest the camera on something or where i can brace myself to take those shots. the cadence of paddling for hours at a time has perhaps helped to develop steady hands as well!
i thought the 'impressionist' photo was cool too. thanks!
The place looks creepy at night. Gross, the cats. Sorry I asked. Thank you though.
happy - ok, as long as u find the place creepy and not me!
eeew...
where is the gateway located? I didn't notice it previously
kakka.. the hugging cat, still as "ugly" as before :P
chen - there are 2 gateways: hornbill gateway facing Jln Song and the traditional chinese stonelion gateway in front of the Tea Pavilion (now serving dim-sums, place was packed yesterday lunchtime so didnt get to try. one more place for your next visit here)
the place is in kuching?
alicia - I am in Kuching and so; yes the place in this 'wow! Kuching's so big and the world so small!'
you've got it!
unbelievable isn't?
on behalf of the Chinese authorities, MBKS and the Sarawak Tourism Board; i urge you to visit this place ... *ahem*
As far as I can remember, this god-forsaken, santa forgotten park has no shelter at all.

If the rain comes, make sure you are wearing red underwear and white shirt white pants!

Oops.. Bangkok overdose!!!
... he's BACK!
in his red underwear with white shirt and white pants!
