Reflection Ranting on Big Fat Clouds ...

posted by Francis Ho

I was on my timber deck yesterday afternoon when I saw the above big fat cloud in the sky and I quickly snapped it before it dissipated as I noticed that the clouds were moving. Being big or small and fat is not a joke in this glamorized world brainwashed by the mass media adverts and shows predominantly carrying images of the beautiful people with impossible good looks. Impossible in the sense of being plastic surgically enhanced or constituting less than 0.00001% of the human race actually looking like that. Someone who came back from South Korea recently remarked to me that he wondered where are all the beautiful korean ladies he saw on the korean movies and TV series were; as he was (foolishly) expecting to see all the ladies there looking like that! Duh!

Sad but true that a lot of us judge people by their looks, fame and money rather than their integrity, values or character or what they carry inside. Lucky are those who have less than perfect looks but keep their inner flame alive with high self-esteem and self worth. We are who we are; a worthy human being regardless of how we look and who you think we are. It doesn’t really matter and we don’t really care. We are our own truths.

Haven't you ever come across simple-looking, down-to-earth people who impress upon, and look good to you, in the very first instance? They are the ones who carry an inner, positive glow on their faces. Beauty is nothing but an outlook, and whether you are actually a positive or a negative person will determine whether you look beautiful, or do not; regardless of your looks.

Being out on the waters and at the mercy of nature; I had learned that we are not our name, title or possessions. The water, wind and currents does not care. What will get me safely back to shore are my inner flame of faith, knowledge, skills and experience. Your looks, fame, money and ego will not. Who cares what car you drive and what brands you are using in the eye of the storm? And in the overall scheme of things, have we ever wondered what are the things that truly mattered in life? You haven’t? But you will or in time; should.

And if you, like me, are born less than perfect physically; you shouldn't worry too much about it. The big fat cloud doesn't – it just is, and it changes. And it's part of and belong to that perfect and beautiful cosmic order. Forget about my rantings and just enjoy looking at the big fat clouds! Have A Nice Day! Be well!

Am I the first one to comment? Wow, I can't believe that.

A nice post, not to mention superb pictures. Thank you so much for sharing.

Having a splashing day!
I am very disappointed when I notice that the person that I respect onece is actually judged me from my family origin. Ya though my family is not very rich, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t become successful one day. I hope that person will read this article one day and stop judging people before you really know them.
This is indeed a very well written post, unker :)
two thumbs up.

Sad to say that most people in this modern world, judge others by their looks, fame, wealth or posession.
I believe we should treat everyone equally.

Thanks for this blog... lovely pics of the clouds and a good write! (By the way, got your hint about being a lurker... so I'll just leave me comments here! :D ) Have a nice day!
FH2O,

After reading a number of your posts recently, I have come to the conclusion that you are a very wise man.

You have shown how you balance your busy life, slow down the clock and take time to smell the roses. I think your Blog about kayaking is not really about kayaking as a sport, but about finding the meaning of life. I think you have already found a number of secrets to the meaning of life.

Thank you for sharing and keep up the good work.

Cheers
Most people are controlled by their senses..

I have 2 eyes in front = I look Forward..

I have 2 ears on the side = I listen to both sideS of the story..

I have only 1 mouth = I see more, hear more and talk less.

My brain is inside my head = my integrity, values and character and thoghts are all inside .. while the sense are outside.

Whether you like it or not, everyone will make some judgement based on their senses, depending on the circumstances, eg a meeting or an interview.

In my previous job, I must decide whether the client is guilty or innocent based on 5 mins chat and then decide whether to take up his assignment. Damn stress.. but that's part of the job..
So well said. I have seen many pretty faces but on closer inspection they lack the inner glow.

Hmm... The no.1 lurker huh.. you mean the panther.. well gotta to start somewhere right? Have a great day.
Hi Folks!

Wah; so many comments including one from Sentosa 7 1/2Mile/TgRambutan! Juz kidding ok!
Since some of u lurkers are now surfacing; I'm in a bit of a spot as to where to categories u now. Hmmm. Actually you are all most welcomed to comment anywhere or otherwise. No hard n fast rules.

Glad that you all like this post and pics. Hmmm, maybe I should be ranting more often! :) Have a Nice Day!
no river pics this time eh. I should have taken the pic of sg paku in bukit saban. Unfortunately the pic can just be captured in my memory. Well, the river is highly recommended. The national service trainees are currently using it as their training ground, so i guess it should be safe for us to paddle there too. the river is quite shallow at this time since there was little rain in that area, but the view at the jetty itself is simply breathtaking. i can actually imagine myself paddling there..hehe..:P

then again, we should check it out first before making any verdict, right unker :)
9lives - hello, hello? some of the big fat clouds must had slipped into ur big fat mind ... u're commenting off topic yunno u skinny gal!
hehe...ooppss...i know, i'm just so excited abt it..hahaha..anyway, lots of clouds on my way to betong.

and since the others sound so serious abt it, i thought i'd steer off the topic a bit..hahaha..

well..just like one of gibran's words..
"And beauty is not a need but an ecstasy.
It is not a mouth thirsting nor an empty hand stretched forth,
But rather a heart enflamed and a soul enchanted.
It is not the image you would see nor the song you would hear,
But rather an image you see though you close your eyes and a song you hear though you shut your ears."

:D
9lives - wah! Quoting Gibran Khalil Gibran now. More clouds must have gone in than I originally thought! kekeke :)
Coincidentally, FH2O, I was re-reading 'Manga Reva' by artist Robert Eskridge last night and came uponn this line which I copied down:

"Beauty ever escapes boundaries which man would set."

The media can try to define beauty in superficial terms all they want, but when we experience people with awareness, the truth of each person's beauty is clearly seen.
I guess the heat gets to me..hehe..or maybe the rain this morning made me a bit sentimental today..:)

Anyway, I've been reading gibran's a few years back actually. he has a lot to say about life
