Little Aaron's Big Birthday Celebration at Tom's

posted by Francis Ho

We were invited to little Aaron’s Big One Year Old birthday celebration at Tom’s on Saturday night, 25th March 2006 by his lovely mum Juliana. The last similar invitation was for Anselm’s (Aaron’s bigger cheeky brother) one year old birthday party too at Lok Thian. Eldest sister Sineado was there too with the rest of Juliana’s big extended family members but unfortunately daddy’s in Calgary, Alberta, Canada – so this is for you Antonio, and all the other family members who are overseas to let you know what you had missed out in sunny and warm Kuching!

The food from Tom’s was great as usual and supplemented by Juliana’s mum famous “kah char mar” – Kuching’s famous ‘drunken herbal chicken’ (traditionally taken during the confinement period but consumed at all other times nowadays!); my all time favourite. Yummy! Oh! And the 'sinful' cheese/chocolate birthday cake is really something worth paddling for!

Thank you Juliana for inviting us and to answer your question when I asked you whether I could ‘blog this’ or not, and you consented after 'consulting' Sineado; this here is what you called a blog!

Happy Birthday, Aaron!

It must be great to be ONE!

(as I cannot remember mine)
The adorable and cute Aaron :)
guess he must be wondering how come there are so many people ( and strangers?) around that night..

I couldn't remember celebrating my 1-year-old birthday as well :D
FH2o, good of you to blog this. It will mean a lot to Aaron's family especially his dad.

Happy Birthday, Aaron!
Robin & Chen - i think the earliest times most of us can recall in our childhood is 6 years old.

happysurfer - that's what i thought and out of habit, and fortunately, I had my camera with me then! A moment not captured is a moment gone forever ...

Wah, Pentax should use this slogan for their marketing!
Oh my gosh! I love kah char mar! Somehow this dish is common in Sarawak but when I asked about it in the peninsular, very few people know about it. I once asked my sister to post it to kl and wondered if this could be mistaken with some leafy drug substance. But it was good while it lasted. Drunken or not, I love the herbal punch and the ginger kick! I would ask my mom to cook it everytime I go back home.
haha.. Agus also in "confinement"?

Yes, I realised that guys do like to eat confinement dishes, like Chinese pork leg with dark vinegar, and liver with sesame oil.

Yummy..
agus - ah! another kah char mar connossieur! :)

must know how to buy the herbs which is actually like grass and are chopped up into fine pieces. the good ones are of leaves while the cheaper (sub-standard)ones has the stalks mixed in!
Juliana called to thank me for the 'lovely photos' and the 'blog'.

Juliana, Sineado, Anselm and Aaron; you are all most welcomed! Thank you again for inviting us! :)
