Water Beneath My Wings

posted by Francis Ho

I like unusual design not just for the sake of it but designs that are not only unique but work well. So I was particularly enamored by this sea kayak called by the intriguing name of “Little Wing” (referring to the flares in the hull design fore and aft) from Warren Light Craft.

Constructed out of Carbon Fiber, Epoxy Resin, Marine Foam Core, the kayak at 32lbs is ultra light. “The closed cell foam core allows Little Wing to be light weight and still withstand collision impacts. The foam will crush under extreme pressure but will not break; an important property for any kayak. The foam provides enough buoyancy to float the kayak even if filled with water.”

What is even more intriguing is the unique shape which is quite unlike any traditional or conventional sea kayaks! And the wings – “The wings, or flares, in the fore and aft allow Little Wing to be both stable and fast. Not only is Little Wing’s stability superior to other high performance kayaks, but with aerodynamic sides and wings that cut through the waves, it is better equipped to handle rough conditions. The wings aid in balancing the kayak in confused and choppy seas in a similar manner to a paddle brace. The wings also make assisted and self rescues easier, especially aft deck rescues.”

Here are some pics from Warren Light Craft’s website.

And how much is the pleasure of owning such a fine craft? It’s USD4,385/- for the base model and there are options for various add-ons and finishes.

Why are toys things we like always so expensive? *sigh*

Why are [toys] things we like always so expensive?

Elementary, my dear Unker:
Because people are willing to pay so much for the things they like.
Nice bods, the kayaks I mean.

Cloud-watching is free.
got taste lor.. or rather got expensive taste..

Or cheap things not necessary mean things that we like.
How come only happysurfer noticed the nice curvy sexy body! ;)

This kayak has the most unique and unusual hull shape design. Quite sensous actually!! hahaha!
Becozzzzzz, only Happysurfer got one, mah. hahahahah............
(Uh-oh, I'm asking for trouble here.)
whoa! Look at the curves on that lil' lady in red! Is the price a wonder?
Ooo, baby. Very sexy.
hmmm. where is the place they put the engine?

the curves?
panda - yes! this kayak is quite a turn-on!
Did I just say that!!! Good thing my other half don't read my blog! ;)

robin - the kayaker who sits inside the cockpit in the middle of the kayak is the engine! where do u want to hang out of the kayak from? duh! heehee ;)
Fh2o, perhaps the next logical step in your Kayaking adventure / venture is to design and build one yourself!!
For SHAME!!!!!!!!!
Put an abayah on that thing!!!!!!!
i agree with batukawa...you're an architect yourself. maybe you can try your hands at kayak designing :)
batukawa - hahaha! one fine day ...

mm - LOL!

ivan - building architect not naval architect lah! ;)
if streamlined curvy body make the kayak perform better in water, does that apply to women too? :-P (Now I finally understand the logic behind Baywatch!)

She's a hot babe!
yd - clever gal! LOL.
there's no logic or anything behind Baywatch except the boobs-watching part!
perhaps silicon is a performance enhancing substance afterall! ;)
I'd think it would create extra drag in the water...
Perhaps more buoyancy?
Moody - about twice as much drag as a cucumber in your trunks.
