Durians are digital because there is no in between – you either love 'em or hate 'em! It’s on or off; or one or zero. You cannot sit on a fence on this one as the thorns of the durians are too prickly for that!

So it was 'judgement day' on Sunday morning that Stephanie and Charlotte from the UK tried this ‘dreaded’ king of fruit from hell or heaven depending on your leaning. For Nick, it was a no-brainer as he absolutely loves this fruit and was on the lookout for them upon learning from me that we could pick them up from the river; and much to his delight and joy he did!
Back to Stephanie and Charlotte; who both tried durian for the first time and Charlotte was absolutely disgusted to put it mildly while Stephanie was an instant convert!

To some durian lovers, eating this rich and intoxicating flesh is almost akin to sex! I absolutely love durians but I wouldn’t go as far as this lah! Less I'll be denied this pleasure of the flesh!

Stumble It!
...akin to sex? hmm... I must get me some of it, durians lah. What were you thinking?
Btw, I've been wondering. When the durians were found, were they literally floating on the water? The reason I'm asking is because you kept mentioning them being from the river. If they have been on the water, wouldn't the flesh be a little soggy just like overnight durian being left on the floor? Don't get me wrong. They are still good to eat. Just wondering about the texture of the flesh.
ur taking me kayaking!
kuching16 - it was love at first taste for me! and it has been a life long affair ever since! :)
happy - sometimes we find them on the banks of the river and at other times floating on the river! yes they literally float. surprising the flesh is completely dry inside (nature's packaging is PERFECT) unless the durian is 'off' or rotten if it had been in the water for too long. so far we had been very lucky this durian season as all the ones we had picked from the river had been outstandingly good (and not to mention the favourite malaysian word - FREE!)!
wuching - just say 'when'! ;)
FH2o, that's great. Considering that durians are almost all-year-round these days, you would have this goodness almost everytime you hit the waters on that river. Enjoy this nature's gift! Are the dolphins not missing you?
happy - unfortunately not! :(
the durian trees along the river are 'wild' and are not cultivated so they only flower and fruit when they are good and ready during the durian season(s) at the most twice a year. they are also known not to fruit at all if the conditions are not right. i'm relishing the bountiful season this year! yipee!! :)
do dolphins like durians too? unlikely! hehee
Having durian at this time of the year is partly due to the screw up our eco system is having. Who have ever heard of Sarawak having two durian season in a year? Anyway..am not complaining but hope the tree can stand it...dnt want to see all those lovely durian tree's dying because they can't cope with the weird weather patterns we have.
Yep, agree!
hate is not the best word.. but close enough
fh2o, im looking forward to our trip on the 10th September. Pls make sure to steer us safely past the "laundry" on the way to pick up some durians!
FH2o not only gets the pleasure of eating free durian flesh fresh from the river, but he also gets to enjoy the sight of attractive women with lots of exposed flesh enjoying free, fresh durian!
Free, fresh flesh!
Try saying that three times fast...
(oops...)
