Happiness ... On a River
posted by Francis Ho

One of the greatest pleasure I get from kayaking is to see the sense of wonder, fun and adventure people have when I take them kayaking. It's great to see people enjoying something that I really love and it gives me great joy that I can share my favourite pastime and rivers with them. And I really appreciate the gratitude from people who are so glad that I'm sharing all these with them.
Nothing beats seeing beaming faces with a sense of wonderment and joy written all over them; especially local city folks and overseas visitors who are on their first kayaking trip. On sunday, the Gerlach family from Germany on their first trip to the far east, the sights, sounds and smells (of the durians!) were simply overwhelming!
Here are some photos of happy smiling folks enjoying themselves on the trip on saturday and sunday at Borneo Highlands, Kuching. When was the last time you experience such fun, adventure and happiness? So what are you waiting for? The sweet waters and fragrant durians awaits you!

how did the germans like the durians? did they throw up? well, most do for their first time.
How come there were no durians when we went kayaking that day eh? I guess it wasn't the season. Oh how I wish I'm there this time around... Better wear a crash helmet, one could go 'kaplunk' any time...

Ah! The coast is clear...;the other orang utan isn't around! I was in Miri last week. Gawd! The durians were all over the place...and they were SO big!!! Didn't eat any though cos upon arrival, there was this big weighing machine at the baggage claim area...and I tipped the scale at 119 kgs!!! Oh my God!!!
i miss the river already :(
will definitely come back :)
will definitely come back :)
wuching - very and very briefly: a canoe is paddled with a single blade paddle while a kayak is paddled with a double blade paddle.
a canoe has an open deck while a sit-in kayak has a closed deck that can be fully sealed with a spray skirt. a sit-on-top kayak has an open deck but is self-bailing.
agus - the lady loves it while the guys all fainted!
it's the durian season now!
suituapui - hmmm luckily tickets for air travel are not priced according to the weight of the passenger! or maybe they should! then u'll be in trouble ;)
sunflower - hahaha! next time we go to a more challenging river! :)

Are the rivers full of durians now or something? I'm just wondering why they're popping up in these posts all of a sudden.
Wow!!! meeting new faces, going places with your kayak.
Please GPS the durain trees. I beg you.
mm - there are durian trees lining the banks of the river and the durians when riped during the durians seasons (like now) would fall into the water and fortunately they float! all one has to do when floating down d river is to spot them, pick em and eat 'em! life can be simple sometimes! ;)
iml - d river can be filled with surprises!
fullmoon - haha! don't worry, i don't need GPS as I know the durian rivers like my backyard now! ;)
