Blue Sky Sunset

posted by Francis Ho

Sunday turned out to be amazing day with sunshine and blue skies after the rains we had been having for the past few weeks. It was a busy weekend starting with IDLE night at MOJO (sorry we missed you 'gette as we were late!) where we were blown away by the performance poetry of Francesca Beard after catching up for dinner with two dear old friends who were glad that I 'dragged' them along for the event.

I had to get up early on saturday morning to take Kelvin sea-kayaking to Bako National Park as he'd been pestering me for a while now. We were lucky to encounter wonderful weather and sea conditions and only got caught in a brief shower on the paddle back.

Got back in the evening just in time to pick up my brother-in-law from Brunei from the airport and took him to a expensive Japanese Buffet dinner for a treat only to find out that he does not like raw fish nor does he take rich desserts these days! Also found out half way through his fried rice that he decided not to go kayaking with me on sunday after he found out that it would 'take too long'; and this is after I'd taken great pains to organise the trip just for him ... *sigh* (I 'dare' to blog this as he does not read blogs nor do any other interesting things I guess!)

Sunday got off to a great start as the guests taking our trip knew each other and we had a noisy but relaxing float down the largely clear water river; a most unexpected treat. On the way back Azmi and I checked out Kg Git as a possible take-out for future trips and met some hashers retrieving the bamboo rafts used at the Padawan Rafting Safari last saturday for their own on the 30th of this month.

After hosing down the kayaks and gears and putting them away, I 'plonked' myself down on timber deck after shower to enjoy my coffee and rest my aching muscles. A satisfying nice and warm kind of ache and tiredness after you'd 'worked' your body kind of ache.

I was 'vegetating' and admiring the blue sky sunset when I got an sms from Kelvin saying that he was aching all over and sunburnt too; followed by another saying that three of his friends are keen to do the Bako trip the next time! Japanese buffet and kayaking anyone?

Meanwhile back to the grind!

Bako coastline sounds good. But any croc hazard along the way?
qv - to each his own i suppose ... ;0
brunei is NOT a boring place per se lah!

wt - the crocs hazards are further inland Sg Bako; which join up Sg Buntal and which are crocodile hunters territory!
i've not spotted any crocs along the coastline (i'm talking from the fishing village to the bako national park coastline) so far and i'm always on d lookout as the estuarine species are more aggressive!

Nice to know that you went through the same physically post-kayak aching experience as mine on the weekend! heh heh heh...yes, going along the Bako coastline was great! Would like to do that again to P Lakei. The idea of being roasted while kayaking and end up roasting a pig head on the beach! Yum...and langkau to add to the flavor. Paradise!
