Kelvin Gets A Tattoo
posted by Francis Ho
After coming back from Mulu with the photographs, Kelvin tells me that he is getting a tattoo done on saturday and that he would keep me posted with regards. So here are his text and photos of the tattoo. Thanks Kelvin for sharing this with us.
The design is quasi-Iban, modified by the artist according to his style. It's a mythical serpent (akin to the dragon but not a dragon) depicted in the stories of many indigenous peoples of Sarawak.
The name of the artist is Jeremy and his tattoo studio is called Monkey Tattoo. It's located at the old shophouses behind Electra House. He used to work at the Borneo Headhunter where he became apprentice to the internationally renowned Iban tattoo artists Ernesto and Jerry who operates Borneo Headhunter. Jeremy was the one who did my first tattoo.

fh2o: thanks for posting. didn't really think that you were going to post it. ;-)
cynical-idealist: yeah, it's jeremy. he was supposed to do it last saturday but at the last minute, called me to say that he couldn't make it on that day because he had to do his taekwando tournament in KL on saturday. it's a preparation to go to India next month, he said. ok. so, he did my tattoo on sunday night instead at around 11pm, which took two (painful) hours! the tattoo was done using the traditional method i.e. using pins affixed at the end of the stick and handtapped with a mallet. he's good at it!

happysurfer: Yes, got the picture for the other (first) tattoo as well.
silveraven: If you feel like getting one, just do it! ;-) Y'know, to get it out of your mind. The most important thing about your own tattoo is the meaning you put to it BUT do not fall in-love with or go crazy over it. That 'love' will inevitably fade after a while and you'd regret having one in the first place. ;-)
fh2o: Yes, he's quite popular. Young fellow but knows what he's doing.
