Learn To Get Uncomfortable …
posted by Francis Ho
Darn! It was kind of getting uncomfortable hanging upside there and would be akin to getting a root canal treatment if I had stayed there longer …
Anyway thankfully my blog is now back up and running again and it’s nice when things are running along fine just the way they were before. I like routine sometimes and boring is also good; sometimes. So what went wrong? It was not the servers and was probably due to a file corruption during the ‘publishing’ process. I copied over from the archive one of the file with empty bytes and that did the trick (or I think that's what I did). And coincidentally at around the same time Kenny (who kindly offered to help me - wah! darn lucky right?) told me that it was something he did after tinkering with blogger settings. Whatever it was, my blog was up again. Phew!
Now I can probably understand why so many people just adopt the standard (and boring) blogger template and stick to it for dear life for the longest time! But not me as I hate ‘standard’ things; but that’s just me. I had changed my template thrice since I started blogging just over a year ago and each time I had ‘tampered’ with the standard template to customise it the way I like it. Not that I had nothing better to do but I like to ‘test’ and see how things would work and I just plain hate ‘standard’ (and ugly) things; but that’s just me. I’m not techie or programmer but hey, the blog is not gonna explode! It’ll just go down – for a while; that’s all! And if you go kayaking and never dare try new things or venture on waters you've never been before; you’re never gonna discover new interesting places or become a better kayaker.
Did I regret shifting to ftp publishing instead of publishing on blogger’s free servers despite all the hassles? Not at all and I’ll probably be ‘tinkering’ with my blog template settings if I get bored with the current one! I remembered when I was a student in Australia years ago and the prime minister (Malcom Frasier - remember him?) there then was hated for always saying "that life wasn't meant to be easy"! I think I'll probably be hated too for saying that its not meant to be too comfortable either; well sometimes at least! (I love comforts!) Be well!

Post a Commentwingz said something that i think is very true; ur blog template is ur "brand" OR "jao pai" so dun go changing it too often coz then ur customers won't recognise the same shop everytime they come by!
From an IT person, I think it was Kenny's "coincidental tinkering with the Blog settings" that caused your kayak to capsize!!
looks like that roll needs a bit of work, just like web-sites.

Okie..finally managed to get in...was kindda sucky past few days that I didn't bother to try :P
Anyway, sure you can tweak, touch up and beautifuy and create all sort of stuff in your blog, but bear in mind, sometimes we readers are rather ficky lot and might get bored if the loading time is too long :P

wuching - my blog is a, er blog; not a 'brand'
I'm not looking for customers or trying to sell anything! Well, unless they wanna go kayaking but that's another website ... ;)
batukawa - kenny had been most helpful; so he'll 'flip' if he hears this!
urbanwriter - hahaha
s.a.n. - not different for the sake of being different though! Glad that you like this template from pannasmontata; which i'd tinkered with on the graphics and page widths. Thanks.

QV - if ppl find it worth their while, they'll wait, or they'll get bored and go elsewhere. fine.
it's impossible to please everybody and like in the 'real'(this is not real?) world; somehow you pisses some people off regardless of what you do or don't do!
so I'll do what pleases me and I find that this seem to please quite a number of people too.
u have a great weekend too.
