Maleny vs Woolworths

There's "People Power" of sort at work at the small rural town of Maleny in Southeast Queensland. They even have a site called "Maleny Voice" to collate and disseminate information for and on behalf of the Maleny community.I really like this! To the community of people of Maleny; you have my support. It's about time that a community stand up to what they firmly believe to preserve the character of their town and not to be bullied into otherwise.

What a coincidence! I was in Maleny last year during my visit to our new sister school. I wrote about it in my own blog. When I was there construction on the Woolworth's was on temporary hold because they'd found a platypus nest on the site. Since the platypus is protected, that meant everything had to wait until they figured out what to do about it.
When I was there again last summer I was told that the platypus nest had mysteriously vanished, and construction had resumed. So had the protest campaigns.
