The Silly Season

posted by Francis Ho

As they say, this is the 'silly season' and in keeping with the season here's a silly (or as See-See a malaysian weekend kayaker living in London, Cynthia and ShuPing from silly-land Singapore would say - "stupa"; as in a 'stupa' architect does not know what is a 'stupa') picture of yours truly taken on saturday (16th December 2006) morning.

Perhaps I should have a caption contest for this ...Photo by See-See of FH2o's Silliness on a kayak

Whatever it is - do enjoy the 'silly' season but don't get "stupa" and drive when you'd had one too many!

Photo by Robin Wong of jungle fruits induced silliness.

And talking about silliness, here's another "stupa" picture of yours truly taken by Robin Wong at the blogger's meet at Bings on saturday afternoon. We (See-See, Cynthia & ShuPing who are blog-readers) went for the meet after our kayaking trip at Borneo Highlands. It was nice meeting the other bloggers (Ann, BoonKim, Irene, Joshua, Allen, Ben, Mike, ChunChow, Ivan, Frank and of course Robin Wong) who were game enough to indulge in the silliness of eating 'lemang' (glutinous rice cooked with coconut milk in bamboo) at bings but not brave enough to try the delicious durians! *sigh* Youth nowadays are so prudent and "kuai-kuai" (goody-goody) unlike my "samseng" days ...

Photo taken from www.robinwong.blogspot.com.
I'm the one with the long (and hairy) legs at the extreme right of the photo.

And not one to waste good durians, I invited my old schoolmates (some had purposely flown in from Canada to Kuching to attend the St Mary's School class reunion) whom I met over lunch on sunday at "Shanghai Restaurant"; to my place to savor this 'king of fruits', and they graciously (and wisely) accepted. After which they agreed that it was a brilliant and not a silly idea!
Going silly with durians at my place!

durian season? YAY!!!
British General: Now, I've noticed a distinct tendency for this blog to become silly. Now, no one enjoys a good laugh more than me...except maybe the wife...and the boys at the...okay! So just about everyone enjoys a good laugh more than me! That is NOT the point! The point is that this kind of silliness is unacceptable, and it must not be allowed to continue! Any more silliness and I will be forced to stop the post!

Durians, however, are okay. So are stupas. Carry on.

dear francitect - many thanks for the great paddling on saturday and for pointing out the interesting sights during the drive out to borneo highlands. you are one fantastic guide to kuching - i hope the local government would reward your architecture practice with their next few commissions for cat monuments.

i hear there are 4 great single-sex schools in kuching. so, i am confused by your reunion photo and am wondering - how you got admited into st.mary's school for girls ?

see-see - thanks for your kind words and I'm glad that you enjoyed the trip.

An explanation is in order with regards to the reunion photo! Both St Mary's and St Thomas's (where I studied) are single-sex school but in the case of St Thomas's they offer the Lower and Upper Six classes for both males and females! So we have girls joining the school from other girls schools such as St Mary's and St Theresa's but probably more from St Mary's as they are just across the road!

Trust that this clears up the confusion!
